How to hem snowboard pants?
I just purchased a pair of L1 Four Horsemen pants. I would prefer the legs to be a bit more fitted. I was wondering if any one knows the proper way to hem snowboard pants. If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

- Generally, the best thing to do is copy the manufacturer's methods. Will you have enough hem allowance to do so? I'm a little puzzled at "legs a bit more fitted"... do you want them just shortened, or do you want them fitted more closely? In either case, to retain the integrity of the water proofing you need to seal the seams. My suggestion at the moment, and especially if there are ankle zippers, is to take them to a qualified alterationist and let him/her do the alterations requested. If you pull the legs offgrain in a misguided attempt to fit the legging portion more closely, you'll get pant legs that will twist as you move, which is probably Not A Good Thing. If the problem is only length, AND there are ankle zippers or a closure system at the hemline, I'd be inclined to suggest you shorten them by taking a horizontal tuck in the fabric somewhere above the zippers. Put the tuck to the inside of the pants, and seam seal the stitching line with something like McNutt's Seam Grip. Fairly typical pricelist from someone who specializes in such alterations: http://specialtyoutdoors.com/about/pricing.asp If you want to do it yourself for some reason, I'd start with Rochelle Harper's Sewing Outdoor Gear and with Penny Schwyn's tips and links pages at http://www.specialtyoutdoors.com
